Baptism of infants presumes that the Catholic parents are actively practicing their faith. Weekly worship with registration in either St. John Bosco Parish in Mattawan or St. Margaret Mary Mission in Marcellus along with support are presumed.
There is a baptismal preparation class for parents and godparents prior to scheduling the baptism. Please call the parish office to schedule a baptismal preparation class. If the godparents are coming from outside the parish, please make sure to bring a letter of good standing from the respective parishes they are attending. Call the parish office at (269) 668-3312 to make arrangements.
Parents and Godparents: Please read THIS prior to the Baptism
Who can be a godfather or godmother?
If your loved one is seriously ill, don't wait for the worst to happen. Some people think that the Sacrament of the Anointing can be received only when the person is about to die. It is always recommended that the sick person receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick when they are fully conscious. It is a very beautiful thing for the people who are receiving it; they are receiving the Lord when they are probably afraid for their own life. Any Catholic who is sick, chronically ill, anticipating surgery or in need of healing is encouraged to receive this Sacrament. All are welcome, especially those who are suffering in any way, mind, body, or spirit.
Matrimony presumes the Catholic party is a practicing and supporting parishioner. The Catholic parties to a proposed wedding should be registered as individuals in some Catholic parish, with one of them being a member of the parish in which they wish to celebrate their wedding. As young adults, their membership is not an extension of their parents' status. Extensive preparation will involve evaluative instruments and private/couple conversation with the Pastor. A prior marriage by either party in any form is a barrier to a wedding in the Catholic Church. Discussing the circumstances of a prior marriage may suggest the possibility of requesting a nullity investigation. Not all marriages that fail are able to be declared null.
